Ontario Power Generation has donated $5,000 towards the purchase of a new mammography unit for Timmins and District Hospital. Guy Guindon, manager of the John P. Larche Medical Imaging Department, said the unit is vital as “Timmins is the only Average- and High-Risk Mammography centre in our area. The next closest is in Sudbury.” He said the new system is expected to operate for the next eight to 10 years with an estimated 5,000 mammography exams conducted each year. Attending the presentation along with Guindon on the right, was Barb McCormick, left, Timmins and District Hospital Foundation manager of donor relations, and Kate Cantin, Northeast stakeholder relations advisor with OPG.
